About

David Weiss is Chief Revenue Officer of The Sales Collective, a sales consulting and training firm, and a returning LeanScale Podcast guest. A fundamentals-first sales coach and prolific voice on B2B sales craft, he has been Challenger-trained at three separate companies and taught it himself, and has built and led revenue teams across enterprise SaaS. His central thesis is that no methodology is a silver bullet: Challenger, SPIN, solution selling, Sandler, and sense-making are each puzzle pieces to be matched to the buyer's journey and the sales motion, and real success comes from mastering the fundamentals — hunting, discovery, business-case building, negotiation, and multi-threading — and executing them with expertise. He is especially focused on how sellers stay relevant as AI floods buyers with information, arguing that sense-making — helping overwhelmed buyers make a confident decision — is what keeps the profession alive.

“If you're in a low-complexity sales environment — which I'd argue is frankly most of sales — the most successful salesperson will be the one who just works the hardest. That's what the research said.”
Ep. 3003:24
“If the majority of your business comes inbound and you're using Challenger, it's literally the worst possible methodology you can use.”
Ep. 3006:36
“You know who wins in inbound? Whoever understands the problem and quickly aligns the right solution. Your great competitive seller wins in inbound.”
Ep. 3007:16
“The relationship builder was oddly the least successful archetype. People who have good relationships often struggle to challenge the status quo — they're scared of disrupting the relationships they've established, so they won't go over anyone's head.”
Ep. 3009:21
“Lone wolf is essentially the salesperson who puts up the two middle fingers — no help, no support, no guidance. Just leave me alone.”
Ep. 3009:55
“There's nothing wrong with understanding the situation your client is in, the problems they're trying to solve, and why they should do something differently now. I don't care how old that is — that's a good idea.”
Ep. 3013:37
“If someone knocked on your door pitching cholesterol medication a day before your checkup, you don't care — you don't have a problem yet. That's outbound.”
Ep. 3019:11
