Dan Friedman is the founder and CEO of Moxie, the all-in-one platform that helps medical professionals — largely registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants — launch, grow, run, and stay compliant with their own med spas. Moxie deliberately doesn't define itself as a software company; it solves the whole customer problem with software, delivered services, content, and AI, and runs an unusually lean go-to-market team (roughly eight or nine people out of a ~144-person global team). Before Moxie, Dan was a member of the first class of the Thiel Fellowship, leaving college after his sophomore year to co-found Thinkful, a mentor-led online education company that became the largest online coding bootcamp and was sold to Chegg in 2019. He frames both companies as a single mission — giving people the chance to own a business and do work they love — and describes himself as someone who simply loves the craft of building products, teams, and companies.
“We don't necessarily define ourselves as a software company. We define ourselves as solving the customer problem.”
“It's great if we can solve them with software, but if we need to solve them by building a service, a content library, some new AI solution — we're willing to do whatever needs to be done to solve the customer problem.”
“It's not 'here's the tool so you can do the thing,' it's 'we're gonna do the thing for you.'”
“Describing it now, it sounds like a strategy, when the experience of building it is more: we're doing the work that feels most important in every given quarter, and then it kind of adds up to a strategy over time.”
“We thought the roadmap would last a certain length, and it's already five times deeper than that, and it's gonna be twenty-five times deeper than that.”
“If we have to choose whether we solve a customer problem or go find more of them, we always solve a customer problem.”
“Our ultimate vision is our customers will pay their rent to their landlord, they'll pay for Meta ads to Meta, and just about everything else they need they're getting either from Moxie or through Moxie.”
“If we started with a broader solution, we would have been pulled in a bunch of different directions and not actually have been the best in the world for anyone.”
